What is happening to the Digidesign team?
Rest assured, the same core Digidesign team of audio fanatics is still here, with offices in Daly City, CA. We just have a different logo on our letterhead. And since the transition, we’ve been playing key roles in creating the new Avid. Over the coming months, you’ll start to see our influence on packaging, videos, customer communications (like this one), and the overall look and feel of Avid.
-320 layoffs in Daly City (2009)
-One whole floor closed in Daly City (because of reduced headcount)
-Departure of Dave Lebolt (CTO!), Peter Gorges & Scott Church & others
-Animosity between the Daly City software team & the Global Logic team in Kiev
-Avid has lost $317M in the past 4 fiscal years
-Digidesign had 2009 revenues of $107M
-Digidesign accounts for 17% of AVID total revenues
-AVID's stock is roughly 1/6th what it was 5 years ago (so much for luring good engineers with stock options)
-Low morale among Daly City engineers (due to layoffs & uncertainty)
-AVID's (Digidesign) nickname among Silicon Valley engineers is "AVoID"
-AVID skips AES 2009
-AVID's Pro Tools profits come from hardware sales
-AVID is now nearly 50% offshore
They layoff 320 PT engineers in Daly City (2009), and subcontract Pro Tools software development to a third party (Global Logic) in Ukraine (Kiev). Where's the synergy in this M&A?
