Oktava MK105
Oktava MK105

Proti MK319 vylepsena elektronika a nova kapsle, ktera ke tlustemu zvuku Oktav pridava vysky a vzdusnost. To mi u MK319 prave schazelo.
Just stumbled across this thread, I've got a little experience with the MK-105 but will have some quality time with this mic and some of the other new Oktava mics soon. My goal is to post new sound samples on my site.
The MK-105 uses Oktava's new, all brass backplate capsule with a 5 micron diaphragm. This conforms a bit more to the classic drilled backplate capsule design than Oktava's earlier capsule used in the 219/319 (A fascinating capsule design and worthy of a post all its own). The new MK-105 capsule / headbasket design in its stock form produces a gentle +4dB rise from 4kHz to 12kHz. This is Oktava's new "air" sound and is a nice compliment to the soft top end of the classic 219/319 capsule.
This new capsule drives an upgraded-component version of the '012 circuit. Oktava has learned from the marketplace and has incorporated the popular '012 circuits mods into their new '012 mics and those mics that use this circuit: the MK-011 medium diaphram mic (more on this later), the MK-102 and MK-105.
The MK-105 on-axis sound retains the classic rich lower midrange power Oktava is known for but adds some top end sparkle. The combination of the new capsule, headbasket and transformerless circuit produces a more transparent or hi-fi sound when compared to the classic transformer output colorations and soft top end of the 219/319.
An interesting feature of the MK-105 is its off-axis rejection. The mic has a 90 degree off axis frequency response plot that is basically a mirror image of the 0 degree plot - just dropped in level by about 6dB. 180 degree rejection increases to 16dB below 2kHz but the top end over 4kHz stays just 8-10 dB or so below the on axis response. This means this mic has a very natural off axis response out to 90 degrees but with a noticably bright 180 degree response. This bright 180 degree response resembles the bright 180 degree response of the MK-012 cardioid capsule. Think of this mic being able to hear "room air".
The MK-101 uses the classic 219/319 capsule in a largish headbasket sitting on top of an upgraded version of the highly regarded MK-012 preamp. So this mic produces that mid-range rich sound, with soft top end but has the added clarity of the transformerless circuit.
The MK-011 is a new medium diaphragm mic with absolutely flat frequency response. It is a very versatile mic that sits in the sweet spot between a small diaphragm condenser like the well-loved MK-012 and the MK-102/105 LDC mics. I expect it will find a broad spectrum of use as both an instrument mic and vocal mic. It has a bit more 90 degree rejection than other Oktava mics so it will be usefull in applications where a tighter cardioid pattern is needed.
In terms of a palate of mic "colors". The new Oktava spectrum runs from the MK-319 on the dark & colored side with its classic capsule and transformer output stage, to the MK-101 being somewhat less colored but still dark with its 319 capsule and transformerless output to the MK-105 being big, bright and clear with the new brass capsule coupled to the transformerless circuit. Finally, the MK-011 medium diaphragm mic has the fast transient response we associate with lighter mass diaphragms and near-laboratory flat frequency response.
Oktava also has some very interesting dynamic mics that I have not heard yet, but look very intriguing. One of them in particular looks like it would make an excellent bass cab mic - it has a bump @ 700Hz in its otherwise flat and extended frequency response that will bring out the "growl" range of the bass. If they pass my sonic inspection I'll add two models of dynamics to round out the OktavaMod mic suite.
I've chosen to carry a select few Oktava models where I can add my own value to these already great mics. Shortly, I'll be offering new, modified versioins of the MK-319, MK-101, MK-105, and MK-011 mics. These modified mics will be OktavaMod exclusives. The MK-319 will have a total of 6 mod flavors available, the MK-101, MK-105 and MK-011 mics will each be offered with just one, all-inclusive modified version. The mods to these mics focus on my signature headbasket and capsule base diffuser treatments to reduce reflections and refractions for improved transparency, detail and transient reponse. Check my site next month for more details.
Oh, the MK-102 is an absolutely brilliant peice of engineering and sounds great in its stock form. There is nothing I can currently do to add any value to this mic so I've chosen not to offer it as part of my suite of OktavaMod mics.

U solid state provedeni zacne generovat neprijemne vysky.
Ale jinak hoooodne povedeny majk. Akorat ho nemam doma, abych ho mohl k tobe privezt na ten test.
Doporucuje ho i Carloff
