Ale teď jeden názor od XL uživatele do pranice.
Guys, I know that you will not like what I write now, but personally, I have made the transition to Vista64 a few weeks ago by anticipating this XP x64 issue. I was also fanatic of XP x64 and thought that Vista is just like a mobile phone with useless gemstones all around that make it heavier and thus only disturb what a mobile phone should "actually" do.
In short, what I have discovered, is the following:
- you can switch off all dead freight in Vista and make it look and feel like Windows 2000, which is my favourite look. No Aero UI, not too much security, optimise everything for speed and performance. Three clicks here and there and you're gone.
- never had a crash with Vista. In fact, if an app crashes, the rest stays more stable than under XP x64.
- the Vista drivers seem to be a bit quicker and more reliable. Just one example: even under Reaper, I could not play around with any sample player utilizing a heavy sample load (round robin samples, layered velocity samples, and so on) played fast (a classical piano piece with sustain pedal can be really hard work for direct-from-disc streaming samplers) on XP x64 with a latency below 512 samples without crackles. Now, with Vista 64, I can use 256 samples latency and such loads are no problem (but, unfortunately, only under Reaper, since Cubase's audio engine is still a non-starter).
- NI software has had big problems under XP x64, like Guitar Rig 3, B4 II, Absynth 4, FM 8, Akoustik Piano, Elektrik Piano, and so on. Sometimes they started, sometimes they froze the machine. Under Vista 64, this is no problem (but, the other way round, to be fair: some older Kontakt-based instruments like EastWest RA rare instruments and Zero-G nostalgia do not register properly under Vista).
After all, I found that Vista is not that bad as it has been rumoured to be. And I have not been paid by MS to say this. I would not want to switch back since I can see no reason. I am using two other DAWs with XP x32 for plug-ins not working on x64 (like Waves) and XP x64 to use another 4 GB even with x32 plug-ins (like VSL instruments).
Just in case anybody considers the transition.

Me poznatky z Visty jsou :
S ServicePackem 1 RC1 jsou NEPOUZITELNE!
Nefunguje ready boost technologie (s zadnym ani RB certifikovanou flashkou...). Bez SP1 Funguje krasne.
HDD opravdu swapuje maximalne temer nonstop, bez SP1 je to mnohem mnohem lepsi. Rychlostni posuv nahor jsem se SP1 nespozoroval.
Bez SP1 mam mene problemu s ovladaci (predtim to nekdy chtelo oladac i na usb mys a nemoohlo ho to najit...).
Se SP1 to nenajde vsechny aktualizace, asi nepasujou...
SP1 je proste k HOVNU (samozrejmne RC1, final bude jiny).
Bez SP1 me sere jen to, ze mi nejde ReCycle 2,1 i kdyz by jit mel.
Mam Ultimate 32bit.
Ostatni hudebni programy, vsti, reason, adobe audition, vsecko jede...
